Two bodies recovered in weekend search operations

Meanwhile, the search for the body of a 19-year-old male who is believed to have drowned at Jabulani beach in St Lucia continues

EMPANGENI K9 Search and Rescue members recovered two bodies at the weekend.

On Saturday, in what was described as a tricky and treacherous rescue, members navigated a steep gorge in Ekombe, near Nkandla, to recover the body of a 28-year-old man who had been reported missing since 15 March.

Members were required to abseil down the gorge to retrieve the man’s body.

It is understood that an inquest docket has been opened and Nkandla SAPS are investigating the case.

On Sunday, Empangeni K9 Search and Rescue were dispatched to Klipfontein Dam in Vryheid were a local drowned after falling off a canoe.

The body was recovered after a three-hour dive operation and was handed over to Vryheid SAPS.

Meanwhile, the search for the body of a 19-year-old male who is believed to have drowned at Jabulani beach in St Lucia continues.

According to reports, the man was swept out to sea last week Monday.

An operation conducted by Search and Rescue members has to date yielded no positive results despite an extensive land and sea search in the vicinity where the man had last been seen.

Beach patrols were conducted at the weekend by local SAPS members, including members of the public.
