Feral cats numbers kept under control

Project Feral Cat is an NPO that traps, sterilises and releases feral cats in and around Richards Bay

PROJECT Feral Cat (PFC) is surging ahead with sterilisations of Richards Bay’s feral cat colonies, having seen to an impressive 113 cats and counting this year alone.

This follows a total of 304 cats sterilised last year, and 46 feral kittens re-homed.

In a recent project, the NPO sterilised five cats, with three additional kittens to be done when they come of age, at the City of uMhlathuze work buildings in Alton, sponsored by Audi Centre.

Philip Mavundla, AKA Baba, works in the fitters section at the Alton complex and has taken it upon himself to feed the feral cats on the premises.

‘I was so impressed with Baba and the way he is looking after the cats with what he has,’ said PFC founder Heilke Ackerman.
