EFF marches to Ngwelezana Hospital

Party demanded a change in attitude

FED up by what they described as ‘poor service by the biggest hospital in the region’, members of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) marched to Ngwelezana Hospital, demanding change in the manner in which the hospital is being run.

Singing revolutionary songs, scores of EFF members blocked the hospital’s entrance last week to hand over a memorandum of grievances to the hospital management, in what was dubbed a peaceful march.

Reading out the memorandum, EFF member Nkululeko Ngubane demanded that the hospital should hire more nurses and doctors to cope with the increasing number of patients who flock to the hospital on a daily basis.

‘Many of the wards in this hospital are not clean and this is a recipe for disaster for our patients who are exposed to unhygienic conditions.

‘There is a need for service improvement in the whole hospital, especially in the reception area, where scores of patients keep waiting on the benches for hours, without being attended to.

‘It has also come to our attention that patients living with HIV are being humiliated and discriminated at this hospital.’

Hospital Manager, Mr Madlala received the memorandum and promised to attended to all grievances contained, while stressing that some of the issues raised need the attention of the Department of Health.

The EFF gave the hospital management a 14-day ultimatum to respond.
