Chances of finding couple’s bodies are slim

Last week a fourth suspect, which members of the Hawks had been on the hunt for since 15 February, was arrested in Newlands, just outside Durban

THE probability of finding the bodies of missing botanists, Rod (74) and Rachael (63) Saunders, who are believed to have been killed and dumped into the Tugela River, are close to none.

This is the view of an experienced ex-policeman who spoke to the ZO regarding the search operations, which are believed to have come to a halt, for the elderly couple.

Last week a fourth suspect, which members of the Hawks had been on the hunt for since 15 February, was arrested in Newlands, just outside Durban.

Malawian national, Ahmand Jackson Mussa (36), known as ‘Bazooka,’ led police to an area of the Tugela River where is reported to have pointed out the location in which the Saunders bodies were thrown into the river.

Bibi Fatima Patel (27)

He appeared in the Verulam Magistrates Court on Monday facing two counts of murder and will reappear together with his co-accused, Sayfudeen Aslam Del Vecchio (38), Bibi Fatima Patel (27) and Thembamandla Xulu (19), who are facing charges of kidnapping, theft and assault.

The ISIS-linked pair of Del Vecchio and Patel are believed to have masterminded the abduction of the Cape Town-based British couple.
