Theft from vehicles a major concern in Richards Bay

Community urged to not leave valuables inside vehicles

INCIDENTS of theft out of vehicles have increased and Richards Bay SAPS are appealing to residents to avoid leaving valuables in their vehicles.

According to Communications Officer, Captain Debbie Ferreira, reports of car jamming have resurfaced and police are asking members of the public to physically check that their vehicles are locked before walking away.

‘Items such as laptops, cellphones, identity documents, wallets, sunglasses and cameras are still being left inside vehicles and this is a cause for concern,’ said Ferreira.

‘Valuables, even if locked inside the vehicle are still at risk and we urge people not to leave any valuables at all.

‘We cannot stress enough the importance of taking an extra few minutes to check that the vehicle is secured, even after locking it with the car remote.

‘For safety reasons, rather take along your bags even if you are only going to make a short stop.’
