Richards Bay shark nets snare yacht

The yacht didn't appear to suffer any damage from the ordeal

NSRI Station 19 was in the early hours of Friday morning alerted to a yacht entangled in the Alkantstrand shark nets.

After unsuccessfully attempting to pull the vessel free of the shark nets with a pilot tug, Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) alerted NSRI duty crew member Jacques Kruger.

A red alert was raised and both NSRI’s Spirit of Richards Bay and Spirit of Round Table II were launched.

The mission had to be postponed until daybreak when the boat was successfully pulled free from the nets and towed into port.
