High speeds a concern for Richards Bay pedestrians

Members of the public are concerned about motorists' high speeds on East Central Arterial

WARD three residents in Richards Bay are campaigning for speed humps on the East Central Arterial, particularly in the vicinity of the Essenwood Road intersection.

This after a recent Ward 3 public meeting at which residents expressed their concern over the high speeds at which many motorists travel on that road.

‘It is a dangerous situation for pedestrians, which include many school children, crossing the intersection at the Essenwood Road robots,’ said Ward 3 councillor Ockie Mulder.

‘I have requested speed humps that reduce the speed to 60km/hr, as in Pongola’s main street.

‘Up to now I have received only promises from informal meetings, but nothing factual has happened to reduce the speed.

‘In all fairness, this concern of the public must be responded to as they are the ratepayers and deserve to be heard.’

The City of uMhlathuze was contacted for comment but did not send a statement.
