WHO would have known that there was a day dedicated to SA’s most loved dessert – the milk tart.
Every year South Africans get together to enjoy this delectable treat, and for Arboretum Primary School, it is no different.
The school chooses five community-orientated organisations to thank them for the extra mile they walk for the Richards Bay community, and spoils them with a delicious milk tart, homemade by Maria du Toit.
This year, the NSRI, SAPS Waterwing, Netcare The Bay Hospital’s emergency room staff, Dr Otto’s veterinary practice and the ZO benefited.
National Milk Tart Day serves to unify all South Africans through nostalgic memories of baking milk tarts and sharing time with family.
This is according to Michael van Niekerk, founder and Director of Deeghuys, who says the delicious teatime treat is a national treasure and available at most bake sales, home industries, supermarkets or bakeries around the country.
