Local ANC says Zuma still has a role to play

Home region welcomes Zuma's recall

THE ANC in the Musa Dladla Region, the home of former President Jacob Zuma, has no plans yet for a welcoming home party.

Several regions in the province said they would give former President Zuma, who was recalled last week, a hero’s welcome home party.

‘At this stage we have not organised anything for Comrade JZ, because we don’t know when is he is returning to Nkandla,’ Regional Chairperson Nonhle Mkhulisi said at a media briefing on Monday.

Mkhulisi reaffirmed the region’s position in welcoming the decision of the ANC NEC to recall Zuma.

‘We also welcome his voluntary resignation, which epitomises high discipline on his part and adherence to the decisions of the NEC.

‘We convened this media briefing to reflect on the consultative meeting held on Sunday at the Empangeni Town Hall, at which NEC member Khensani Kubayi-Ngubane addressed ANC branch chairpersons, secretaries, leagues and councillors on the recent developments in our organisation.

‘We also want to confirm that our branches did raise concerns about the manner in which the transition in the organisation was handled, as well as the divisive articulation by some NEC members, which was contrary to the unity we are advocating to achieve in the ANC at all levels,’ said Mkhulisi.

Asked if they were planning to use Zuma’s services in the region, Deputy Chairperson Mdu Mhlongo said there were areas where they believed Zuma could assist the ANC.

‘We know President Zuma as a cadre of the movement and he will no doubt join us on the ground when we campaign for a decisive ANC victory in the 2019 general elections.
