A HEARTBROKEN mother has opened a case of assault GBH against the uMthwazi Combined Secondary School principal for assaulting her son.
The 45-year-old traumatised mother of Emlingo at Mkhuze, whose name is withheld to protect the identity of the learner, alleges that her 19-year-old son was badly assaulted by the school principal on Wednesday last week for not wearing a full uniform.
‘When my son arrived at home, he was struggling to walk properly as he was still in pain.
‘He was wearing a grey pants and white shirt, instead of powder blue shirt.

‘The uniform is only sold at school, and in January I placed an order to get one school shirt for my son, but up until today, we are still waiting for our order,’ she said.
She said he wants to know why the principal assaulted her son, as he is aware that they are still waiting for their order.
The Department of Education spokesperson, Sihle Mlotshwa said corporal punishment is a crime and is unacceptable.
‘There are so many teachers who have lost their jobs because of the contravening the South African School’s Act.
‘As the Department of Education, we are going to investigate the allegation, and if we discover that it is true, the necessary steps will be taken,’ said Mlotshwa.
Police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala confirmed that a case of assault GBH was registered at Mkhuze police station and the suspect was arrested on Wednesday.
‘A 40-year-old suspect appeared in the Ubombo Magistrate’s Court and released on bail,’ said Gwala.
