Heavy weather batters KZN’s far north

An extreme weather warning was issued by the South African Weather Service

HEAVY rains for northern KZN as predicted by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) have hit Jozini and Mkhuze, with mid-afternoon reports of flooding, uprooted trees and power outages.

According to a Facebook post on the Parks and Wildlife – Zululand (PAWZ) page, Jozini Mall is underwater while trees are down amid flooding in the uMkhuze Game Reserve.

There is also no electricity at uMkhuze’s Mantuma Camp but Eskom has been informed.

Mkhuze residents say there is no flooding in the town.

According to the SAWS weather alert issued earlier today (Friday), heavy rains leading to localised flooding are expected to last until tomorrow morning.

uPhongolo, Nongoma, uMkhanyakude, uMhlathuze and uMfolozi are expected to be affected.
