AN 11-year-old boy reportedly shot his two-year-old sister at their family home, before turning the gun on himself on Saturday night.
Both died in the incident in the Mancekane Reserve – the boy at the scene and his sister in the Empangeni Private Hospital yesterday (Sunday).
The siblings’ father told police he left his house to drop off his wife at work and left his two children alone at home.
According to police he claimed he left his loaded 9mm pistol on top of his bed.
A hospital source confirmed that the girl, who was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition on Saturday night, succumbed to her wounds on Sunday morning.

The source said on arrival at the hospital, the father alleged that his 11-year-old son was responsible for the shooting.
‘He said when he returned home he discovered both children lying in pools of blood in separate bedrooms and his son was already dead.’
Police spokesman, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, said they have opened a case of murder and are investigating.
