Zulu warriors ready to fight for land

ZULU warriors (Amabutho) have threatened to deal with anyone who tries to interfere or amend the Ingonyama Trust Act.

Amabutho leader, Induna Muzi Nyandeni, said they are disturbed about recommendations by a committee led by former President Kgalema Motlanthe to scrap the Act.

The Ingonyama Trust owns three million hectares of land with King Goodwill Zwelithini the trustee.

One of the proposals made is that the land be transferred to the State or the Department of Human Settlement.

Nyandeni said they view these recommendations as a way of undermining King Zwelithini and the Amakhosi and said it woould not be tolerated.

‘Recently the government was against the ceremony of ukweshwama and the maidens’ Reeds Dance ceremony (Umkhosi womhlanga).

‘The government is not instigating a war against our King and Amakhosi, but it is waging war against the Zulu nation.

As warriors we are ready for that war,’ he said.

Provincial traditional leaders chairman, Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza, said they are disturbed about the report.

They have invited Motlanthe and his panel to address them as traditional leaders.

‘Our forefathers fought for this land and we cannot allow people to simply do as they please.’
