Antigua, Guyana, St Lucia and Barbuda were selected by CWI through a bidding process held last year. Now, when ICC has finally ratified these venues, the Darren Sammy Stadium and Guyana National Stadium will stage the preliminary round matches. The two semi-finals and the final will be held in turn at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
According to Stakers.com, women’s tournament T20I is scheduled for November 2-24. After the previous 6 tournaments held alongside with men, this will be the first stand-alone women’s competition.
This time South Africa will compete against Windies, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Australia and England, current ODI champions. The last two spots in the participants list still remain empty. These spots will be claimed by the finalists of the ICC Women’s World 20 Qualifiers winners, scheduled to take place on 3-14 of July in Netherlands. Papua New Guinea, Scotland, Bangladesh, Holland, Ireland, Thailand, Uganda, and United Arab Emirates are among the qualifying countries.
Last year, after reaching the World Cup semi-final in England, South African cricketers were only two wickets away from winning against the hosts and the eventual champions. the Proteas were considered underdogs, however, they managed to get to the semi-finals and win the 5th place. And that was quite a good result, considering their not really successful history of competing against big teams.
The Proteas squad for the World Cup will consist of Dane Van Niekerk, Andrie Stein, Ayabona Khaka, Chloe Tryon, Laura Volvaardt, Lizelle Lee, Masabata Klaas, Mignon Du Prez, Mozeline Daniels, Shabnim Ismail, Sune Luus and Trisha Chetty.
