Empangeni Chistmas party spat video goes viral

Uninvited guest ordered to leave function for city seniors

A VIDEO showing Ngwelezana Ward 28 Councillor Madlinyoka Ntanzi ordering a 67-year-old Ngwelezana woman to leave a senior citizens’ Christmas party has gone viral on social networks.

The 46-second video was recorded on a cellphone at the Empangeni Civic Centre during the Christmas event for seniors organised by the uMhathuze Municipality in December.

Councillor Ntanzi is heard and seen to be demanding to know from Thandi Nyawo why she was there.

Nyawo retaliated, demanding to know why Ntanzi was degrading and embarrassing her, but the councillor continued shouting at her, ordering her to leave.

‘I can leave if you want me to, I am not that hungry, but why are you humiliating me like this in a public place?’, she asked.

Nyawo told the ZO she went straight to the police station to open a case against Ntanzi.

‘My heart was torn apart. To be honest, I was not invited to the event but I wanted to be part of it.

‘I want him to tell me why he was calling me a thief,’ she said.

A ward committee member who asked not to be named, said Nyawo was not on the list of beneficiaries.

‘Before the incident Ntanzi met with her and asked her to leave because she was not invited.

‘She agreed, but later entered the hall again and that’s when the commotion started.’

Ntanzi said he could not comment at this stage as the matter is under police investigation.

Police spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, confirmed a case of intimidation has been opened.
