Police officer killed and another injured in John Ross accident

It is believed that one officer was flung out of the vehicle

A police officer was killed last night in a horrific accident on the John Ross Parkway (R34) just after 10pm.

It is believed that two officers were travelling on the N2 towards Durban when their vehicle plummeted down the embankment near the new N2 bridge construction, and rolled a number of times before coming to rest on the John Ross Parkway.

One officer was killed when flung out of the vehicle, while the other was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

A VW Polo was also involved in the accident, presumably attempting to dodge the tumbling SAPS vehicle.

When the ZO arrived on the scene, uMhlathuze traffic officers, SAPS and an uMhlathzue Fire and Rescue crew were in attendance.

More details will follow.
