Light at the end of the Richards Bay power outage tunnel

Electricity should be restored by late afternoon today (Wednesday)

MULTIPLE cable faults causing the prolonged power outage in parts of Meerensee and Mzingazi since yesterday (Tuesday) are still being worked on and electricity should be restored within the next four hours.

This after municipal electricians worked through the night tracing the various faults and working on the restoration process.

Burnt cables at the substation behind the Meerensee Mall were reportedly the cause of the outage which saw many Meerensee and Mzingazi homes without power through the night.

‘The team of electricians attended to the fault since last night and discovered that there are other faults causing more tripping,’ said City of uMhlathuze spokesperson Mdu Ncalane.

‘The team worked throughout the night and is still on site. Another issue is managing the load, which is proving to be problematic, but in the next four hours it should be sorted.’
