Mthonjaneni Municipality awards bursaries

Mthinjaneni mayor presents bursaries to 78 matrics

FOR the second consecutive year, the mayor of Mthonjaneni Municipality has handed over bursaries to matric learners who are proceeding to higher education institutions.

Cllr SBK Biyela last week presented the bursaries to 78 learners from 13 wards – six from each ward – to cover registration, accommodation and text books fees.

At a ceremony held at the Melmoth Town Hall to honour the matric class of 2017, the municipality also awarded certificates to those students who scooped top ten places.

Mayor Biyela praised both learners and educators for putting Mthonjaneni Municipality on the map with their high pass rate.

‘I wish to thank the 2017 learners and also their teachers for the hard work that led to the raising of our pass rate in the province.

‘This year we will repeat the successful programme that was used last year.

‘As a municipality we are committed to helping our youth to access higher tertiary education, which will not only help the future of the learners, but also their families and the entire community.’
