Community foundation looks to year ahead

uThungulu Community Foundation is a NPO that networks with other community-based organisations

THE uThungulu Community Foundation (UCF) recently published its outlook for 2018 as part of its commitment to share vital information on socio-economic development.

‘First and foremost, one needs to state that UCF belongs to its local community, supporters and donors, and not to its employees or management,’ said UCF CEO Simphiwe Mbatha.

‘Employees and management operate strictly within clear guidelines provided for in the foundation’s constitution.

‘When it comes to public accountability, the organisation remains 100% open to public scrutiny.’

He said obligations imposed on UCF by public accountability requirements compel the foundation to remain, at all times, accountable to a number of stakeholders.

These include the national Department of Social Development, donor individuals and organisations, supporters and other sister community-based organisations.

‘To this end, socio-economic values based on transparency, openness and honesty characterise the nature and operations of UCF.’

The foundation has great expectations for 2018 and celebrates continuing partnerships with local individuals and corporates.

A part of the global community of community foundations, UCF connects the country with the rest of the world and markets the local community, as well as being part of the South African Philanthropy Leadership Network (PLN).

Staff members provide requested assistance to other community-based organisations both nationally and in Africa, and within the local community.

UCF also issues grants to other community-based organisations serving various sectors of society.

Further to this, UCF continues to conduct research on a variety of socio-economic challenges, as well as publishing books it believes assists and strengthens the capacity of entrepreneurs to succeed in their business ventures.
