Drive to support needy learners

According to the charity's founder, Merinda Ackerman, their organisation has identified more than 60 school children who are in need of essential school supplies

STRIVING to make the 2018 academic year a success for local scholars in need, Richards Bay-based charity Walk In Faith has launched a school supplies drive to collect donations of stationery, uniforms, school shoes and backpacks.

According to the charity’s founder, Merinda Ackerman, their organisation has identified more than 60 school children who are in need of essential school supplies.

‘Many families face financial difficulties because of the tough economic times, loss of work and the challenges of child-headed or single-parent households.

‘We believe every child deserves the opportunity to perform to their best at school and we want them to be equipped with all the right tools.

‘The term starts on 17 January and we would like all our youngsters to have their essentials before the first day of school.

‘The estimated cost for a primary school child’s stationery is R350, while a high school learner’s is about R550, depending on their subject choices.

‘Our young beneficiaries are also in need of school uniforms and sportswear and equipment.

‘Second-hand uniforms for Veldenvlei, Arboretum and Richards Bay primary schools and Richards Bay High School will also be appreciated,’ said Ackerman.
