WATCH: Brazen New Year’s Day home robbery in Empangeni

The perpetrator broke into the home on the morning of New Years Day while the homeowners were still on holiday

A perpetrator was caught on camera breaking into a home in Empangeni on New Year’s Day.

The suspect can be seen in the video approaching the front gate of the home wearing only overall pants and boots.

He takes up to 15 minutes to break the lock on the front gate before disappearing.

He later reappears wearing blue shorts and a blue shirt.

He enters the premises and intimidates the dog using a large branch.

He enters the home after kicking in the bottom part of the kitchen door, avoiding the top of the door which has sensors that would trigger the alarm.

He crawls through the home, avoiding the sensors, and rummages through rooms and taking valuables. He even leaves his old boots behind after swapping them for a pair of the owner’s sneakers – loading everything into a bag which he found in the home.

The perpetrator triggers the alarm in the lounge before exiting the home through the bottom of the kitchen door through which he entered.

Empangeni SAPS are investigating a case of house robbery.
