Two suspects arrested for having unlicensed firearms

Aged 24 and 39 years, the two appeared in the Ulundi Magistrate's Court

TWO suspects were arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms during an operation at Ulundi Plaza on Sunday.

According to police reports, at approximately 1.30pm, Ulundi K9 Unit, Ulundi detectives as well as Ulundi Crime Prevention members were conducting an operation at Ulundi Plaza in a bid to curb crime at malls.

While performing their duties, they saw two people behaving suspiciously and they were stopped.

The two were searched and found to be in possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

It is possible that they were on their way to commit a crime.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Aged 24 and 39 years, the two appeared in the Ulundi Magistrate’s Court.

The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to established if they were used in any other crimes in the province.

KZN Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa commended the members for the arrest and the recovery of unlicensed firearms.

‘Our members are still conducting the Safer Festive Season Operations in the province and we already achieved good successes.

‘The police are on the alert and conducting various operations to ensure that criminals are brought to book.

‘Arrested suspects are being profiled to see if they are linked to any other crimes in the province,’ he said.
