The mayoral change was termed a 'reshuffle' by the IFP

Gumede was inaugurated on Friday, 15 December taking over from the Mayor Cllr Qhina Mkhwanazi who was released by his political party the IFP in November.

Gumede previously represented the IPF at uMkhanyakude District Municipality and he resides at Mfekayi area at uMtubatuba.

‘It is imperative for us to work towards educating our communities about the danger of women and children abuse, and also to forge ahead and deal with substance abuse among our youth.

‘This can be successfully achieved if we create a good working relationship with national and provincial government, the district municipality and the private sector,’ said Gumede.

He insisted it is vital to create a good working relationship with all structures within his municipality and to involve them in every decision they take, so they feel that the municipality belongs to them.

‘I am not easily pleased by clean audits with no service delivery to the community.

‘This is highly regulated institution; compliance to regulations, policies, acts and meeting the deadline is non-negotiable.

‘Staff maintenance, competent management and administrative are key towards an effective and efficient municipality.’

He praised the foundation laid by previous mayor, Cllr Mkhwanazi and thanked the IFP for showing confidence on him.

‘I wish to all Mtubatuba residents a happy and prosperous New Year,’ he said.
