Respected traditional leader laid to rest

Buthelezi praises iNkosi Ntemba

PRINCE Mangosuthu Buthelezi has heaped praise on the late iNkosi Ntemba Mthethwa, describing him as the tallest tree who contributed immensely to the development of the institution of traditional leadership.

Buthelezi was speaking at the funeral service of one of the longest serving traditional leaders held at Bhekwayinkosi on Sunday.

In his speech, read out by iNkosi Bonga Mdletshe, Buthelezi said iNkosi Mthethwa’s departure has left a big void.

‘He has been one of the pillars of ‘ubukhosi’ and was instrumental in unlocking rural development for his community, while nurturing future traditional leaders at the same time.

‘We served with him in the erstwhile KwaZulu Government. He demonstrated impeccable leadership qualities. We hope there will be no squabbles in the appointment of his successor,’ Buthelezi said.

Speaking on behalf of the Zulu Royal Family, Prince Mbonisi Zulu said His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini was saddened by the news of iNkosi Mthethwa’s passing.

‘He was one of the oldest and most respected traditional leaders in the province, who supported His Majesty’s initiatives wholeheartedly,’ he said.
