IFP wins uMlalazi by-election

ANC lose ward in uMlalazi by-election

THE IFP came out winners in the only by-election held in KZN yesterday.

In the run-up to the hotly contested uMlalazi Ward 10 by-elections on the outskirts of eShowe, senior politicians flocked to the region drumming up support for their candidates.

After all the dust had settled and the votes counted, IFP candidate Sibonakaliso Freedom Mdletshe was announced the winner with 1 404 votes (53.86%).

The ANC received 1 130 (43.34%) of the votes, the EFF 53 (2.03%) and the DA 20 (0.77%).

The NFP did not contest the by-election.

The seat, previously occupied by the ANC, became vacant after the passing in August of ward councillor and ANC branch chairman Mbuyiseni Zwane (47), after a long illness.
