ONGOING power outages in several Brackenham streets should soon be over as the installation of a new electrical cable is underway.
The new cable will put an end to the power failures in Gibbum Grove, Golden Fern, Frondosa, Blacktree Trail, Felt Fern, Fishtail, Extensia Angle, Hedgehunt and Grandiceps.
Ward 26 Councillor Leslie Joseph has requested residents to be patient while the overhead cables in phase 4 of the suburb are being replaced with the underground cable.
He said some of the cables have been laid, but there was a shortage and the contractor is now waiting for more cables to arrive to complete the work.
‘The electrical boxes have been installed in the meantime.
‘The trenches have been closed as a safety precaution and will be dug up when the cables arrive.
‘A major challenge has been that the whole area was designed without considering the logistics of electricity maintenance and repairs. Poles and cables run through back yards and in-between houses.’
