New Zululand District mayor sworn in

Buthelezi replaces Buthelezi as mayor of Zululand District

EXERCISING their right, the ANC opposed the nomination of IFP candidate Thulasizwe Buthelezi as mayor of the Zululand District Municipality at a special council meeting on Friday in the Zululand District Council Chamber.

The nomination led to a secret ballot, which Buthelezi won by 23 votes.

The vacancy arose when previous mayor and IFP Deputy President, iNkosi Mzamo Buthelezi (no relation), was deployed to the National Assembly.

Thulasizwe Buthelezi is a former Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade national chairperson.

He left the party’s seat in the provincial legislature to become a full-time pastor in the Zululand district.
