ON Friday, the eShowe Regional Court sentenced Mnguni Richard Maxhumzana (43) to life for a rape he committed on 1 January.
The rape occurred at Mpungamhlophe near KwaMbonambi.
The 12-year-old victim was visiting her neighbour’s homestead with her grandmother.
While there, the grandmother sent the victim to her sister’s place.
Along the way, the victim was called by her uncle, with whom they were staying, and he raped her in the house.
The victim managed to run away and reported the matter to her grandmother.
A case was opened and the suspect was arrested five days later.
The case was then transferred to Ulundi FCS investigation.
