Growing concerns over shoddy road

The ZO previously reported on the shoddy state of the road when heavy rains are experienced in the area

TWO serious accidents took place on the R102 towards Felixton last week, once again highlighting the dangerous condition of the provincial road – especially when it rains.

The ZO previously reported on the shoddy state of the road when heavy rains are experienced in the area.

Massive puddles form on either side making it a hazardous driving experience for the many who use the busy route rather than the tolled N2.

On Thursday paramedics battled the wet weather after they were called to assist with the entrapment of an occupant.

Two people were critically injured while two more suffered moderate injuries.

All the patients were transported to Ngwelezana Hospital.

Meanwhile on Friday a vehicle flipped and rolled after the driver lost control.

Fortunately, three of the occupants in the vehicle were unharmed but the vehicle itself was a complete write off.

A Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) member told the ZO their concerns about the shoddy state of the road had been raised before at provincial level.

At the time of going to print, the KZN Department of Transport could not be reached for comment.
