Seven arrested for business robberies in Nquthu CBD

Nquthu arrest of six suspects leads to a further arrest in Gauteng

WHILE conducting an intelligence operation last week, Nquthu police arrested six suspects planning to rob one of the supermarkets in the CBD.

The suspects were in three vehicles.

A firearm with its serial number removed was recovered.

Further investigations took the police to Katlehong, Gauteng where a seventh suspect who was found with a firearm in his possession.

He is believed to be an accomplice of those arrested in Nquthu.

Extensive investigations have linked the suspects to two business robbery incidents in Nquthu and Osizweni, Newcastle.

On 14 July, unknown armed men accosted employees at a local bank in Nquthu CBD and robbed the employees of an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing.

In the Osizweni incident a supermarket was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police also discovered that suspects were planning to rob the same supermarket in Nquthu and Nkandla.

The suspects will be profiled to determine if they can be linked to other business robberies in the country.
