MEC upbeat about matric exams

District leads with female enrollment

KZN education MEC Mthandeni Dlungwane has expressed confidence that this year’s matriculants will perform well.

The matric exams begin on Monday and the final paper will be written on 28 November.

Dlungwana said his department was ready to deal with the administration of the examinations process.

‘All processes, from the registration of examination centres to the release of results, have been well planned for.’

He said the department registered 1 688 public school examination centres and 69 independent school examination centres.

‘The total number of candidates registered for the National Senior Certificate examination is 193 768.

Out of this figure, 153 624 are full-time candidates and 40 318 part-time.

Dlungwana said his department had prepared schools and candidates well for the examination, by developing relevant intervention strategies at district, circuit and school level.

These he said, included writing of tests, winter classes and boot camps.

‘These programmes were informed by the feedback from the 2016 diagnostic reports in all subjects.

‘We have also trained 1 151 district monitors for deployment at all the examination centres.

‘We will use 27 centres for the 2017 National Senior Certificate marking of papers.This will start on 1 December 2017 and conclude on 15 December.

‘After the release of results on 5 January, candidates who are not satisfied with their results in certain subjects will be given an opportunity to apply for remarking,’ Dlungwana said.
