Still no sign of drowned teen’s body

Missing schoolboy prolongs family’s grieving process

WHEN eSikhaleni’s Dlamini family received a call about several bodies recovered in Durban three weeks after their teenage son drowned at the city’s South Beach, the news sparked a glimmer of hope that they would finally be able to give their son a proper burial.

But their hopes were dashed when they visited the morgue and discovered that 18-year-old Lindani’s body was not among the deceased.

‘We were devastated to learn all the bodies had been claimed,’ said family spokesperson Sihle Godlimpi.

‘Everyday which passes without his body is an extension of the family’s grief.’

Lindani, a Grade 10 pupil at Sibhakuza High School, was swallowed by giant waves while swimming at the beach.

He was part of a class of 40 learners on an educational excursion to the city.

An alert has been sent out by the South Beach Central Police and coastline guards are still on the lookout.
