ONLY 9km of the P700 road through Ntambanana remains to be upgraded.

This is according to KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda.

Kaunda told the ZO he is certain the road will be completed before the 2018/2019 financial year deadline.

An amount of R1.6-billion was budgeted for the construction and upgrade of the P700 which began in 2003, of which close to R1.2-billion have been spent on design, supervision and construction to date.

The P700 links the communities of Mpongose, Ximba, Biyela, Ulundi, Vryheid and Ntambanana.

Recent rains have caused a slight delay in progress, but the construction deadline on the P700 road should still be met
