Carjacking suspects arrested in eShowe

Suspected carjackers appear in court

TWO suspects, Thembinkosi Msane (21) and Khetha Mahlangu (23) appeared in the eShowe Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges of carjacking, possession of stolen motor vehicle and attempted murder.

They were remanded in custody until 11 October for a bail application.

Two of their accomplices are still at large, but the police believe their arrests are imminent.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, eShowe police supported by the Richards Bay Flying Squad were doing crime prevention duties around the area.

They received information about four suspects in possession of white Isuzu vehicle suspected to have been stolen in Esikhaleni during a house robbery on 3 October.

The members spotted the vehicle at a service station in eShowe and tried to stop it, but the suspects sped off.

The police gave chase and the suspects opened fire on the police who returned fire, forcing the vehicle to stop.

Two suspects managed to flee the scene and two were arrested.

No injuries were sustained by the police or suspects.
