Brackenham family robbed at gunpoint

Criminals forced open a window to gain entry into house

A BRACKENHAM family were robbed at gunpoint on Friday morning when three armed suspects entered their house in Goldenfern street at about 3am.

The armed robbers forced open a window to gain entry to the property, tied up the family with ropes and ransacked the house.

‘It was reported that the suspects called someone to pick them up after the robbery and the complainant’s son chased after them in his car,’ said Richards Bay SAPS Communications Officer, Capt Debbie Ferreira.

‘The suspects fired shots at the vehicle but no injuries were reported.’

Ray Govender of Brackenham Community Crime Watch (BCCW) said patrols are continuing in the suburb, but a shortage of manpower prevents them from covering all the streets.

‘We need more residents to come forward and join us in this fight against crime. Our members cannot patrol the entire suburb and we are encouraging residents to become proactive and establish neighbourhood watches in their streets.

‘It is also advisable to report incidents of crime immediately on the BCCW WatsApp group.

‘The patrol teams meet at the Caltex garage every night at 9.30pm and all community members are invited to join,’ said Govender.
