Spring tide danger warning

NSRI issues national school holiday spring tide safety warning along entire coastline

THE full moon spring tide which peaked last night (Thursday) will result in ‘super tides’ for the duration of the weekend.

National NSRI (National Sea Rescue Institute) spokesman Craig Lambinon said that higher than normal, and lower than normal tides would be experienced.

He also warned bathers, surfers and fisherman of stronger than normal rip currents, which would last into the better part of next week.

‘We urge the public to be cautious around the coast toda and over the weekend,’ he said.

‘With the school holidays at the moment and an increase of visitors to the shores for bathing, paddling and fishing, we are particularly focusing our warning at swimmers and fishermen,’ he said.
