Lower uMfolozi War Memorial Hospital upgrades improve service delivery

Hospital’s CEO Nqobile Mkhwanazi said the functioning of the facility has improved remarkably

INFRASTRUCTURE upgrades at the Lower uMfolozi War Memorial Regional Hospital have helped improve service delivery to patients.

Hospital’s CEO Nqobile Mkhwanazi said the functioning of the facility has improved remarkably.

‘The upgrade has enabled the hospital to deliver appropriate services to suit the population’s needs and levels of care. Capacity is adequate enough.’

Lower uMfolozi, which provides specialist maternal and child services for the Umkhanyakude, Zululand and King Cetshwayo districts, underwent the upgrades as part of the national hospital revitalisation programme.

The hospital increased capacity from 268 beds to 417.

Among the upgrades was a major addition of the new hospital wing, parking, kitchens, laundry, security and transport offices, staff accommodation and the workshops and waste disposal facilities.

In August Deputy Director General of the National Health Insurance programme in the province, Mfowethu Zungu, said many projects are being conducted in northern KZN to ensure readiness for the national health financing system.
