Three escapees appear in court

They appeared in the Empangeni District Court on Monday after they were recently rearrested

THREE of the five detainees who escaped from the Empangeni Correctional Centre two weeks ago, appeared in the Empangeni District Court on Monday after they were recently rearrested.

All three cases were remanded for further investigation.

The case against Skhelekeqe Sibiya, who faces murder charges, is set to continue on 17 October.

The cases against murder accused Fisokhule Mfeka and Dumisani Ncamphalala, facing charges of housebreaking, robbery and attempted murder, have been remanded to 23 October.

Ncamphalala was the first escapee to be rearrested when members of Empangeni’s Task Team caught him in eNseleni last week.

The following day a local security guard shot and killed Themba Sipho Dlodlo after he attempted to attack him with a bush knife.

On Saturday Sibiya and Mfeka were rearrested at Matshamhlophe in Nongoma.

The search for the one outstanding escapee, Siyabonga Mshana Khumalo, who is awaiting trial for murder, continues.
