UPDATE: Tyrone Calasse loses his brave battle for survival

Tyrone passed away in hospital last night

CONDOLONCES are pouring in for the Calasse family after the news broke this morning that Hlabisa shooting victim Tyrone Calasse passed away last night at St Augustine’s Hospital.

Two weeks ago the ZO reported that Calasse was on the road to recovery as he celebrated his 53rd birthday at the hopital.

On 1 July Calasse, the General Manager of a convenience store in Hlabisa, was shot four times during a heist.

He was shot once in his left shoulder, in his right arm, the side of his stomach and the fourth bullet hit him in the lower part of his head.

He was opening the store in the early hours of the morning when a taxi approached and a number of suspects got out and held him up at gunpoint.

When Calasse took out his phone to send a message to one of the store managers notifying him of the robbery, it is believed the suspects saw him using his phone and shot at him.

He was airlifted to St Augustine’s Hospital in Durban.

Surgeons put him into an induced coma because CT scans revealed he had swelling in the brain which they needed to drain.
