Five suspects escape from Empangeni Medium

POLICE are on the hunt for five detainees who escaped from Empangeni Medium yesterday morning.

All five inmates are considered to be dangerous, with four of the five inmates accused of murder and attempted murder.

The KZN Department of Correctional Services (DCS) confirmed the escape of the detainees held in the Empangeni Medium section of the prison.

According to KZN DCS a preliminary investigation revealed the inmates escaped at approximately 3am on Monday through a communal window cell after window bars were forcefully opened and they jumped over a six metre high barbed wire fence.

Bonginkosi Olive Nxumalo, accused of being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, attempted murder and robbery, was found trapped on the barbed wire fence.

Any member of the public who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the escapees are urged to contact the Empangeni Police Station on 035 9015833, or call the crime prevention number 08600 10111.

A case of escaping from custody has been opened at Empangeni Police Station.

The ZO in the process of obtaining mugshots of the escapees.

1. NAME: Mukelani Njabulo Skheleqe Sibiya
FROM: Nongoma, Matshamhlophe Reserve next to Bhobhobho Primary school
ALLEGED CRIME COMMITTED: Murder and robbery

2. NAME: Sifisokuhle Mfeka
FROM: Dokodweni at Ngulule Reserve next to Thembalihle store
ALLEGED CRIME COMMITTED: Murder

3. NAME: Siyabonga Mshana Khumalo
FROM: Mtubatuba, KwaNkombose Reserve next to Zamani Store
ALLEGED CRIME COMMITTED: Murder

4. NAME: Dumisani Patrick Ncamphalala
FROM: Richards Bay, Mandlazini Reserve next to Vukuzenzele store
ALLEGED CRIME COMMITTED: Housebreaking with robbery and attempted murder

5. NAME: Themba Sipho Dlodlo
FROM: eSikhaleni, Mandlankala Reserve next to Maqhama Primary School
ALLEGED CRIME COMMITTED: Robbery with aggravating circumstances
