Zululanders count the cost of the weekend’s severe weather

Last night's gale force winds left Zululanders with much damage and debris

AFTER getting through last night’s (Saturday) gale force winds that swept up the east coast, Zululanders today counted the cost of the damages in the cold light of day.

‘My old car that is not insured was badly damaged while parked at my flat,’ said Ndumiso Gumbi.

‘Our church collapsed while we were inside… I’m still scared,’ said Simphiwe Angel Phiwe Buthelezi.

No one was injured when the structure in Ngwelezane collapsed this morning.

‘The stable roof at Dayspring blew off; the horses are safe but some are standing two in a stable,’ said Barbi Pulvensis.

‘The first gust of wind that hit in our area – Arboretum – caused our power to dip a few times, enough to trip our circuit breaker,’ said Naomi Beetge shortly before the whole of Richards Bay fell into darkness.

‘In eSikhaleni, trees have fallen on the roof, making a hole in the roof, and windows are broken in my house because we did not close them,’ said Smangazo Nicky Omuhle Khanyile.

‘Small part of our roof blew off but while checking the damage from the road, I saw part of Empangeni Prep’s pavilion roof being ripped off,’ said Margaret Steenkamp.
