Grantleigh tennis teams rule the court

Grantleigh claimed three tennis crowns

GRANTLEIGH School’s tennis teams dominated the King Cetshwayo schools tennis league’s final round played on Saturday at different venues.

Grantleigh won the high school boys and girls sections, as well as the primary schools section.

Local schools from all over the district competed in the singles and doubles league every Saturday over the past six weeks.

The high school boys section was closely contested, with runners-up eSikhaweni leading the log with just two rounds to go.

But Grantleigh managed to leapfrog ahead in the last two rounds after producing some sensational tennis and claimed the title for 2017 with 226 points.

The girls section saw Grantleigh taking the title after finishing with 127 points, as well as the primary school title with 244 points.

Schools will take a break from the courts and return next term when they compete in the Inter-Schools Tennis League.

Dates and venues are still need to be announced.

Grantleigh’s Anthony Pattinos will represent the KZN Curro tennis team at the Curro Nationals on Saturday at Sun City.

Final results 
High School Boys League – 1 Grantleigh 226 points, 2 eSikhaweni 175 points, 3 Pongola 170 points.

High School Girls League – 1 Grantleigh 127 points, Richards Bay High School 50 points, 3 Pongola 35 points.

Primary Schools League – 1 Grantleigh 244 points, 2 Richards Bay Primary School 133 points, 3 Mtunzini Primary 108 points.
