WATCH: Video that will lead to teacher’s suspension

A teacher from Umdlamfe Secondary School in Esikhawini will be suspended today following an assault on female pupils in his classroom

A TEACHER from Umdlamfe Secondary School in eSikhaleni will be suspended today following a brutal assault of a female pupils in his classroom.

The video emerged on social media yesterday and shows the male teacher caning female pupils.

King Cetshwayo District Director of Education, David Chonco, confirmed the suspension with the ZO this morning (Tuesday).

‘Yes,  the teacher will be formerly suspended today, and Labour Relations officials are dealing with the matter from here on.

‘We want to encourage people to report this kind of behaviour and to make the relevant authorities aware.

‘Twenty years ago, in 1997, corporal punishment was abolished. We stand by that – and we condemn this sort of behavior at the highest level,’ he said.

The suspension of the teacher follows a press statement issued by the ANCYL Secretary for the Musa Dladla Region, Nathi Xulu, calling for his dismissal.

Xulu said that they would be opening criminal charges against the teacher.

‘The ANCYL  regards schools as a foundation phase for a prosperous future for each and every individual.

‘When parents send their children to these institutions, it is for the purposes of caring for them and to brighten their future.

‘We will demand his dismissal, for a crime that was blatantly committed in front of a class, leaving not only witnesses but traumatized pupils.

‘We do not need teachers such as this in our schools. They belong in jail.

‘We will also be laying criminal charges against him today.

Yesterday the KZN department of education went on the record saying that harsh action would be taken against the teacher.

‘We want to send a clear message that corporal punishment will not be tolerated in our schools and other learning facilities,’ said departmental spokesperson Kwazi Mthethwa.
