Suspected Home Affairs fraudsters arrested

SEVEN Home Affairs suspects were arrested for fraud and the contravention of the Immigration Act and Identification Act by Durban’s Commercial Crime unit, together with the Home Affairs counter corruption team.

Home Affairs found some irregularities in the issuing of late birth certificates at the Ulundi, Mzimkhulu and Bulwer offices.

The operation was conducted between 18 August and 1 September.

Six suspects – Snothile Buthelezi (26), Sibulelo Malanda (49), Nkosinathi Madlala (31), Nokuphiwa Fihlane (26), Nowinile Sikhosana (34) and Lindiswa Mkhafula (28) appeared briefly in the Durban Special Commercial Crime Court on Thursday, 31 August and they were granted R2 000 bail each.

The case was postponed to  3 November.  The seventh suspect, Buyelaphi Stubchen (57), appeared on Monday,  4 September and her case was postponed to 5 October.
