Churches march against women abuse

Violence against women and children highlighted

COLD and rainy weather did little to dampen the spirit of members of various church denominations who took to eSikhaleni’s streets to campaign against women abuse.

Speaking to the Zululand Observer during the march, which started at the bus depot and ended at the eSikhaleni Shopping Mall, God’s Ambitions Church in Zion General Secretary, Sibonakaliso Mkhwanazi, said women were the most abused in society.

‘We are here to voice our displeasure at the level of violence directed at our women. Every day we read about stories of women abuse, abductions and even killings.

‘We can’t afford to fold our arms and watch from a distance. We feel the time is right for us as the church community to also play our part by assisting law enforcement agencies to clamp down on crime directed at our women, especially domestic violence.

‘The violence against women and children is a societal issue, and as a society we are affected. Women are the pillars of society.
