Community clubs in to help needy children

Pastor Rita Khumalo put out the word that at least 30 children at a Mzingazi crèche were in desperate need of food and winter warmth

WHEN Pastor Rita Khumalo put out the word that at least 30 children at a Mzingazi crèche were in desperate need of food and winter warmth, she had no idea that help would come so quickly.
The ZO charity organisation DICE (Do I Care Enough?), quickly put together a package of beanies, which were lovingly knitted by Richards Bay locals and donated to DICE, and blankets for the children of Makgatlaphelo Children’s Home.
The Outpost Restaurant on the grounds of Richards Bay Country Club in Meerensee then very generously donated a mountain of food, including meat, pasta dishes and salads, giving the children a warm, hearty meal on a cold, winter’s day last Friday.
‘We are so grateful for these donations. We had no idea we would get any help, let alone so much so quickly,’ said Pastor Rita.
‘It is only by the grace of God that we find ourselves accepting the blankets, beanies and food for these most needy children.’ Makgatlaphelo Children’s Home was established in September last year and, yet to receive a government subsidy, has survived on donations and sponsorships.
Thirty pre-school children attend the crèche everyday, while a further 50 make use of the aftercare facility, with children of all ages and grades able to do their homework after school in the safety
of the facility.
Until such time as it gets a government subsidy, Makgatlaphelo Children’s Home is in desperate need of carpeting so the children do not have to sit on the cold concrete floor, and the replacement of a few small window panes.
The crèche is also always happy to accept any donations of food for the children. Anyone willing to help can contact Pastor Rita on 071 9819100.
