Grace Mugabe controversy rages on

Calls for action against Zimbabwe's First Lady for the alleged assault of a Joburg woman

Pressure continues to mount for the government to take action against Zimbabwe’s First Lady Grace Mugabe for the alleged assault of a 20-year-old Johannesburg woman.

Many people on social media have questioned why she has not been charged for allegedly assaulting Gabriella Engels with an electric extension cord, leaving her with a deep cut on her forehead.

Engels claims the attack happened when Grace found her and other women inside her son’s hotel room in Sandton on Sunday.

She further alleges that Grace walked in, along with her bodyguards, with a cord wrapped around her hand and started attacking them.

Engels has since opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
People on Twitter have called for justice.

‘If they can’t prosecute #GraceMugabe then they must make sure her sons and her don’t return to SA,’ one Twitter user said.

‘There should be justice for the victim, after all it is Women’s Month #GraceMugabe,’ said another.

‘#GraceMugabe – a worldwide travel ban should be imposed on you……since you blatantly disrespect the rules and laws of other countries.’

Police Minister Fikile Mbalula told reporters on Thursday that police are on alert at all borders to ensure Mugabe does not leave the country.

Zimbabwe has reportedly requested diplomatic immunity for the country’s First Lady, which would mean she would not be prosecuted for the alleged incident.
