False report on missing Mbali upsets family

On Tuesday an SABC news site reported that the 23-year-old Mbali had been found alive in a hospital in Nigeria

MEDIA reports claiming that a UniZulu student, Mbali Gumede who has been missing since June 5 this year, had been found, have been refuted by her family.

On Tuesday an SABC news site reported that the 23-year-old Mbali had been found alive in a hospital in Nigeria.

According to the report, Mbali was kidnapped, put in a container and shipped to Nigeria.

Family spokesperson Tobo Mthembu has distanced her family from the report, saying these were unsubstantiated rumours.

‘We were shocked to see this story in the media, because from where we are, no one has located Mbali’s whereabouts.

‘There has not been any development on this matter. As soon as we hear of something concrete, you will be the first to know. I promise you,’ said Tobo, who is Mbali’s sister.

Mthunzini Police Captain, Sibusiso Guma said the investigation to find Mbali was still ongoing, and there was nothing to report on at this stage.

These are merely hearsay. We would be the first to know, as the police, if there was ever a new development on Mbali’s whereabouts,’ he said.
