A SUSPECT was arrested by members of Empangeni SAPS on Monday morning following allegations of attempted rape.
SAPS members followed up on information that a woman had reported an attempted rape and that community members were up in arms over the incident.
Police swooped in to make the arrest before community members took justice into their own hands.
The victim told SAPS members that the suspect told her to go and fetch something from inside a room before he entered and locked the door.
He is reported to have pushed her onto the bed before attempting to rape her.
The victim was taken by SAPS members to open a case following the accusations.
Police confirmed that a case of attempted rape had been opened and the suspect will remain in police custody until further investigation is done.
