Driveway gun threat in Meerensee

The man had been urinating on the verge before he pulled a firearm on the resident and threatened him

A MEERENSEE resident was traumatised on Wednesday night after a man, reportedly claiming to be a police officer, threatened him at gunpoint outside his home.

The incident occurred just before 8.30pm when the resident approached a man who was urinating on the verge against a wall.

The man, driving a silver Toyota Hilux with Durban registration plates, had reportedly earlier been seen sitting in his vehicle on the verge until he was joined by another vehicle, possibly a Toyota Yaris, with Richards Bay plates.

While the driver of the smaller vehicle remained in his car, the driver of the bakkie exited his and commenced urinating.

It was at this time that the resident in question approached the man and asked why he was urinating in public.

The driver of the smaller vehicle reportedly made a u-turn and sped off.

‘The man then returned to his vehicle, made a u-turn and stopped horizontally at the gate of the resident before pulling out a 9mm pistol,’ said Dave Pretorius of Northern Region Protection Services, and who is also a member of the Meerensee CPF.

‘The man then pointed the firearm at the homeowner and said, ‘your days are numbered’, before speeding off.

‘I was immediately called by the homeowner and arrived on the scene within minutes.

‘By the time I had stopped to speak with the homeowner and ensure he was okay, the suspect was gone,’ he said.

The homeowner did not recognise either driver of the two vehicles.

He did not open a police case for investigation.
